  3. retraction works fine if you set it right. retract really slow like 5-15mm/s and over 1mm length and youll get perfect results.

  4. Hey, Angus, I have an M3D Micro (I know, one of the worst, right?) but I do find it prints flexible materials a whole lot easier than PLA and orders of magnitude better than ABS. I use their own slicer, which you really can't configure too much, so maybe your settings are already factory pre-set? Also, perhaps their flexible material (Tough 3D Ink) is slightly different to NinjaFlex etc? Anyway, just to say that I've found printing flexible materials on the M3D Micro is actually the easiest way to print 3D objects.

  6. I use Hatchbox's TPU on my Solidoodle 2 with an E3D v6 hotend, and I only needed to change flow rate to make it print beautifully. I also made sure that the temperature was correct, and that the short length of bowden tube they supply was almost right against the drive gear. Other than those changes, I didn't have to change anything, and im super lucky that my machine prints flexible materials almost better than PLA!

  9. i disagree with disabling retraction. i use more retraction than normal because the filament compresses. i don't have any extruder issues with retraction, and i don't have stringing. (using ninja flex and a printrbot alu extruder v2)

  14. Great tips! After doing my flex video, I found many of these same things super helpful. Some filaments I found could take minor retraction others could not at all. Pretty interesting to see the different types of flexibles and how they all need slightly different settings. Much more complex than a pla.

  25. Good video, I didn't know about that last magic S3D setting! I never could get ninja flex to print regardless of any settings until I got a titan extruder, then it wasn't too hard.

  26. Cheers. Have managed to print TPU on the stock Tevo Tarantula extruder. Problems occur on retraction where the filament doubles around the rollers.
    Was using 60mm/sec speed too.

  29. Thanks for the great tip on doing the using different printer profiles for flexible and normal filaments. I have a filament type of TPU but it doesn't change enough things so I need to remember the settings.

    I have a roll of the hobbyking flexible filament and it works great, Many great prints out of it.

    Angus, I can't connect to your live stream, because of living in Europe, so I would ask you there. I want to buy my first 3d printer and I can't choose between the wanhao i3 plus and original mk2 i3. The price is really different but is it really costs to pay more and get the original one or this additional features are not that useful?

  32. Hmm, this stuff does look rather interesting, can you print wearable stuff? For example, if I wanted to make a replacement watch band or pair of thongs, can that be done reliably & safely or would there be pores or tiny surface defects that'd end up being filled with sweat & gunge?

    I used Flexible PLA from Rigid Ink with Up Box (with CPU upgrade) - the bed height was too low and the reel was too heavy (1kg) - so I reeled off an approx amount to complete the job so it was lighter and raised the bed height - sorted it!

  36. i print hobbyking flexible matterial on my cheap mk8 extruder it works really wel. not mutch tweeking. retraction enabled. i just get printspeed down to 25mm/s and a bit hotter temp then recomended. i even printed a revolved latis cube whit it did perfectly. even a ball for my dog with in design support with a gap of 0.2mm to the model came out great. i gonne get some nijaflex soon to try out hofefully it works just as well...

    have snapmaker been in touch with you about reviewing there printer/engraver/mill yet? and if not what do you think of it from what you have seen? (they have a page here) exactly the concept i want and need but not sure if there is better out there yet alone if there kickstarter is dodgy. thoughts please :)

  38. This is spot on !! I would also add print a single object at the time as jumping from an object to the next one will leave strings between them. Kind of implied in your travel within a part.

    I can only comment on Polymakers' PolyFlex PLA as this has proven very easy to print. With my WANHO Duplicator i3V2 I just lower printing speed to 40mm/s and use printing temp of 210c. With my little M3D printer I do nothing special with settings and it prints fantastic. I did a quick YouTube on this a while ago. I make 'squishable' Bender heads of varying infill percentages for my hand therapy. :)

  44. One thing left out (besides cooling) I use Prusa's recommendation of loosening the feeder gear tension significantly. Prusa i3 Mk2 usually 13.5mm for PLA (Measured from orange plastic to bolt flange, tension springs area) to 15mm. Makes a big difference. I also use supports and retraction. I love TPU printing. No issues. The comment about the difference between TPU vs TPE (ninjaflex) is very important too. My main s3d setting changes for TPU vs PLA are : Speed 20mm/s, extruder multiplier: 1.15 (my filament measures 1.65) I use retraction but uncheck "force retraction between layers" and check "only retract when crossing open spaces" under advanced settings. Retract distance .8, retration speed 30 mm/s, coasting distance .30 mm, wipe distance 2mm. Hope this helps someone.
